ORION AT MALONE HOUSE The music lover's perfect evening out Good food and great music in beautiful surroundings The setting is the lovely Harberton Room in Malone House, and we have three recitals planned for spring 2012. 18 January - Orion Duo (Ruth and Chris) will play an exciting sonata by Richard Strauss, best known for orchestral tone poems and horn concertos. This is an early work and follows a traditional 3-movement classical form, but the use of the instruments is exciting and demanding. We will also play a set of variations by Beethoven on a theme from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro. 8 February - Melanie Armitstead, the English mezzo-soprano, will be our special guest. Melanie has sung principal roles in Northern Ireland with Opera Northern Ireland, and appeared as soloist with the Ulster Orchestra - click here to go to the players page for a fuller biography and photo. Our programme will include the songs by Brahms for mezzo-soprano, viola and piano, and British music by Rebecca Clarke and Vaughan Williams for voice and violin. Melanie will sing some solo items with piano. This is the first time we have worked with a singer, and we are really looking forward to this new combination - the mezzo-soprano voice is a warm, rich version of the female voice and will combine beautifully with viola. 14 March - John Leeming (cello) joins us for piano trios. The programme includes the great E flat trio op100 by Schubert. This was one of the last compositions completed by Schubert. The slow movement has been used in a number of films, including the Stanley Kubrick film Barry Lyndon. The other work is Fauré's op120 piano trio, and like the Schubert trio this is a very late work. Graceful lyrical music with an exciting, energetic last movement.
Tickets for each evening - including dinner - cost £43, or £40 for parties of six or more. Series tickets (for all three evenings) cost £120 per person. Click here to buy tickets through PayPal using your credit/debit card. |
