ORION AT MALONE HOUSE The music lover's perfect evening - good music and excellent food in a very stylish setting 2013 at Malone House Wednesday 27 February 7.30pm - John Leeming joined Orion Duo for an evening of piano trios. We played the best-known of Beethoven's early trios, op1 no3 in C minor, and the passionate Romantic trio by the Czech composer Smetana. We also added an unusual piece, Orpheus by Liszt, arranged for trio by Saint Saens
Wednesday 27 March 7.30pm - Orion Duo played a Mozart violin sonata, Brahms op120 no1 sonata for viola and piano, and Benjamin Britten's "Lachrymae" for viola and piano. This uses a theme from the music of the earlier British composer John Dowland, and celebrated the 100th anniversary of Britten's birth. Chris played a piano sonata by Beethoven, the "Pathetique" sonata in C minor.
The 2012 autumn concerts at Malone House were on 26 September and 2 October
26 September - Praeger Ensemble played a programme including the lovely Mozart oboe quartet K370 in F major, and the programme included the Britten 'Fantasy' oboe quartet. Praeger Ensemble is Chris Blake (oboe), Claire Thatcher (violin), Ruth Bebb (viola) and Liubov Ulybysheva (cello), a recently-formed group that is enjoying exploring the variety of music for this lovely combination of instruments. The group will also play a lunchtime recital at Queen's University on 15 November. 2 October - Orion Duo played Beethoven 'Spring' sonata, and the programme also included music by Dvorak, Janacek and Joachim. We had been thinking of going back to Beethoven for a while, since (we believe) that we have played all of the sonatas in the past, and it has been a while since the last one! |
